Miles and miles to go

Notice the new playlist? These 2 songs have really reached out to me because the lyrics are quite uplifting. I love listening to what a song is trying to say, sometimes more so than I like the beat of the song. I think I am in a mood for music today, time to get downloadin'!

My fellow sophomores, we have 2.5 more jam-packed years before JUDGMENT DAY (a.k.a. college admissions notices). As a reminder, here is a stanza from one of my favorite poems:
"The woods are lovely, dark, and deep,
But I have promises to keep,
And miles to go before I sleep,
And miles to go before I sleep."
-- by Robert Frost, Stopping by Woods on a Snowy Evening
(This is not the first time I read this poem but when I read it again today, it made a whole lot more sense. Like it says, the journey will be long and disappointing but don't sleep just yet! Haha)

Jamba Juice (I get to use my free smoothie card!) and then off to the new Milpitas Library for the first time. Another chem project... with a group that barely does anything. I miss my old lab partner, Dorkatron!

Crab crab crab!

Winter rally was today and so was the N'sync dance. 1st rally went well but the 2nd rally!! Ohmygosh... music started skipping so we all got off beat. Quite embarrassing. I was super nervous right before we were about to dance (I could have sworn my heart was beating at the speed of that Tahitian song!) but I was surprisingly calm and happy during the dance. I think I kinda understand that natural high you get in front of crowds. Screamed so hard during roll call (3 roll calls per rally = 6 times of screaming your heart out!) that I felt very much lightheaded. Tried to sleep during lunch, barely made it through 5th and 6th.

Volunteering at the crab feed was fun (even though I had totally forgotten about it until last night, so I had to cancel plans that I had made with someone, sorry again...) Free crab, chocolate (oreo) cake, and cheese squares. Woohoo! The crab was the best. Someone even asked me to Junior Prom but I said no thanks. (I think he was kidding!?) Kevin was there and he is totally mean to me but what would I do without him? <3 Planned to walk to Jamba Juice afterwards but instead, went home and ate s'more of that addicting crab goodness.

This morning, my Starbucks barista said he had a brain fart when he couldn't remember how to spell Caroline. I always giggle when people say brain fart, teehee. Brain fart, brain fart, brain fart :D

Today is the 5th day of the new year (Chuwu, or Powu) which means more dumplings! Dumplings and crab in one night, just beautiful.

OH YEAH! So I am talking to Tram on AIM right now and she reminded me how she ran into a pole today. IT HAPPENED EXACTLY HOW YOU WOULD IMAGINE IT! She was talking blahblahblah then BAM! :D Like usual, Tram made my day and made me a whole lot less nervous for the rally<333

Semester 1

"Oh well, what can I say... Different strokes for different folks." That's what Ms. Mellera said today when commenting on how often Raul leaves his desk to visit Eddie. LOL!

Finally my semester 1 grades are out! :D I am happy happy happy (ecstatic, even) but I can't help but be a little worried about next time. I had to work pretty damn hard for these grades, so how much harder do I have to work this semester!? The work load only gets more and more difficult.

PE: A-?
Honors Chem: A- (90%)
AP World: A- (91%)

One letter

I was about to type 'searching for food' as my AIM away message but I messed up and typed 'searching for good.' Now that I think about it, both of them apply to me.

I really should delete your screenname but I guess I don't want to. Instead, I just moved it to a different group. I have realized my curiosity results in my very own suffering. I keep anything that contains memories because I feel all memories are important but they tend to bring pain more than anything else. Also, I have not changed my AIM password since its creation. I know I should by now. What does that really mean? I think I may know on a subconscious level but no way in hell will I admit it.

Dumplings tonight, Chinese New Year festivities continue. Oh yeah, I got niangao from Michelle on Monday that was delicious and deliciously sticky. (Niangao translates to rice cake in English, but it also literally translates to prosperity year in and year out. Double meanings are very common in Chinese and can be confusing, but isn't that cool?)

Revolutionary

My AP World teacher gets off topic a lot, this is pretty much the gist of his lecture today:
You can't go into a class wanting to leave. If you dread entering that class, it is gonna be pure pain for you the whole damn time.
That happened to hit me hard. When he said that, I was just thinking about how freaking long this semester is gonna be. I can't enter this semester in this fucking mood. I feel like I am stuck, sick, stressed, useless. The hamster on a wheel. The constant pressure of doing everything and doing everything well. I really want out although I now realize I am not gonna get out. At least not anytime soon. I guess there is no use in using all my brainpower to try to fast-forward my life cause that really isn't how I am supposed to live it. I am really trying to notice a little bit of something in each of my classes to look forward to, whether it be a friend or a interesting topic. I might as well look for some kind of meaning in why things are instead of completely blanking out. I'm still looking.

"I hate life!" Tram always says that and it gets stuck in my head (Ugh Tram! Haha just kidding.) There are times when I really think I have no other choice but to give up. I don't know where I am going and I don't know how to get there, so what's the damn point? And then I get distracted by something else. I forget, because thank God I am forgetful (a useful coping mechanism). Maybe that's the answer to all life's problems, a worthy and interesting distraction. Maybe we can't completely solve a mystery but instead, get depressed about not solving the mystery until we are forced to deal with another mystery.

Life isn't a black hole. It's hard, long, and disappointing hole. It's a really really dark gray hole, a dark gray that is infinitely close to black. But rest assured, it is not a black hole.

Everything sucks right now, so I am sitting here waiting for my next mood swing to lift me right back up to ME.

First day of nothing

I was really excited for swim practice today... but, there was none. Pool was "Alcatraz" cold and there were gross stuff floating around. So we just set up the lanelines, then I went to Nob Hill with Wendy for some fried chicken, just like old times.

This semester does not seem like its gonna be any better than first. If anything, more stressful. Chinese New Year celebrations last night (webcamming with family in China was bittersweet, I hella miss all of them) made me very tired throughout the day today. Nevertheless, I was in a jolly good mood & looking forward to the (cancelled) practice.

Oh yeah, led my first Science Olympiad meeting. Ivy wasn't there so she told me to run it and I freeeeeaked. Thankfully, Ms. Meyer helped me. I hope I sounded leader-like (or whatever you call it). Its quite fun, having almost total command of a room.

Happy New Year!

Thought that I was stronger

$600 from Chinese New Years! It's times like this when I love being Chinese (Not to say I hate it the rest of the time, I just appreciate it more haha). Brunch was heeeeella good, lobster in the morning only happens like three times a year when our 5 or so families get together so I must enjoy it while it lasts! Don't think I can survive dinner when I am this full.

Thought this was interesting: “The period around Chinese New Year is also the time of the largest human migration, when migrant workers in China, as well as overseas Chinese around the world travel home to have reunion dinners with their families on Chinese New Year's eve.” (Source: Wikipedia) I'm not really surprised about the migration: the trains in China around this time are craaaaaazy. My mom was telling me how when she was a student in China away from home, every Chinese New Year she would take the train home and her feet wouldn't be able to touch the ground because it was so crowded. Who knows if she was exaggerating... I have seen a train where there were a mass of black-haired heads, with each head about an inch or so away from the next. It wasn't even rush hour!

I wanna visit the rest of my family back in China, they all live so close together and can visit each other anytime they want. All we have here are family friends so it's kinda more formal, less comfortable or fun.

Love Guru is hilarious. & yes, I realize I am pretty behind on movies. Later on, I'm gonna watch Iron Man and enjoy this weekend right before our damn 2nd semester starts.

Private blog today. “Thought that I was stronger, part II”

Sadies 2009: Blackout

Last night: The theme was great and pretty unique to me. Crazy hot and sweaty inside, crazy (but fun) date. (: Freaking everywhere! but the chaperones were pretty lenient (except to Victoria hahaha). Soooo damn sore, not even kidding. There was even a Wii! Denny's afterward until 12, chocolate milkshake yuuuum. Gotta admit, dances are more fun without the dresses.

I hate waiting for the professional pictures to come, which is like 2-3 weeks -_-

^^^ I was high-fiving my tall buddies (:

Obamized

(This deserved a post in itself, my 1st post from today is below)

THIS IS AWESOME!!! I noticed if you replace the Z with a C then add an E at the end, it will be CHANGE. Woohoo :D

Going through the gallery of Obamized pictures was hiiiiiilarious. Some of my favorites:

-"Yes she ham!" (with a pic of Miss Piggy lol)
-"Yes we khan!"
-"Yes, he did!" (with a pic of Monica Lewinsky HAHA)
-"Yes, a can!" (I also saw fan, pan, man, etc.)
-"Yes he tran!" (Cause it was a pic of a transexual hahaha)
-"Yes Wii can!"
-"Yes pe-can!" (Pecan pie yuuuum)
-"Bitch.I.Am!" (Hahaha Will.i.am)
-"Yes tou-can!"
-"Yes pee in can!" (with a little boy peeing)
-"Yes Peter Pan!"

Finalized

FINALS ARE DONE! I got that totally weightless after I finished my French final, then I took a satisfying nap. English was alright... I know I got a B on the multiple choice questions so the in-class essay will make it or break it for me. I need at least a B- on that final!

Sadies tooooooonight! Talked out the details of our outfit (and picture pose, haha) last night so its all good yo. These Vans are absolutely beautiful & I will keep them forever :D

The semester is over=sophomore year halfway over. No homework for the weekend either. It's times like these when I feel happy to just be... me. No worries.

What a laugh

B- on AP World final but my grade is still a 90% so it's all good in the hood. Very worried about English tomorrow (Yep, another borderline grade damnit). 200 questions and an essay... ya crazy?!

Science Olympiad meeting afterschool was productive and I actually feel like I can contribute something. Beginning to earn a teacher's trust is always nice too ("If you tell anyone in my classes, I will deny it!" "Yes, Ms. Meyer." Haha). Couldn't make rally dance practice but I think I got the first 30 seconds that Tram taught me. Orthodontist said my braces STILL aren't coming off! Another promise shot to hell.

Still need to tell Mom about Sadies but she has been especially... I don't know... Motherly? towards me cause of finals. Kept asking me what I wanted to eat and it took most of my willpower to say "Oh, nothing" because I try not to eat outside of my 3-meals-a-day. She let me skip swimming practice today when I had a revelation that I will be swimming nonstop until end of May (and plus, it's fucking cold). Well actually, I swim nonstop anyways when it's not swim season, it's just the increased pressure of "You cannot miss any practices or else!"

I was right! Teddy Roosevelt was the youngest president to be inaugurated! Not Kennedy, he was second. In your face! :D (In case you were wondering: Clinton is 3rd, Grant is 4th, and Obama is 5th. Reagan was oldest.)

My homepage is the New York Times but I'm thinking I should change it. All the headlines get me distracted and I end of spending an hour reading things. Good distraction, sure. But a distraction is still a distraction after all.

I hit my funny bone yesterday, then I laughed when my arm started hurting. When I realized it WAS my funny bone, I laughed even more. But all this funny business got me wondering, so I did what I always do... Google it! (Yeah, shut up. I bet you do it too.) Look what I found:
Your funny bone isn't actually a bone at all. Running down the inside part of your elbow is a nerve called the ulnar nerve. The ulnar nerve lets your brain know about feelings in your fourth and fifth fingers. It's also one of the nerves that controls some movement of your hand. You get that funny feeling when the ulnar nerve is bumped against the humerus (say: hyoo-muh-rus), the long bone that starts at your elbow and goes up to your shoulder. Tapping your funny bone doesn't do any damage to your elbow, arm, or ulnar nerve. But it sure feels strange!

3 important updates

I GOT AN 89 ON MY CHEM FINAL!!! AHHH!!! HOLY SHIT MOTHERLOAD CRAPPER! So my grade is a 90% flat which is an A- baby! I swear, I almost cried.

Shoes for Sadies came in! Matches pretty well with the shirt, well at least that's what he said. From what I saw, it looks veeeery nice :D

No more Lunar Show this year for me. Priorities come with sacrifices and I had to deal with an ultimatum: if I don't show tomorrow, then I am out. I can't show tomorrow & I don't feel like fighting the system, so what does that mean? No matter how much I wanted to be a part of it, it's for the best.

No time for relaxation

So tomorrow I have a crapload of places to be at afterschool... Winter rally dance practice (12:30-1:30), Science Olympiad meeting (12:30-1:30), Orthodontist (2:30), Chinese Club Lunar show practice (3:30-4:30), then Swimming practice (4:00-6:00). And yes, I realize a few overlap but I am gonna need some time to think about how I am gonna prioritize these.

Honors Chem test! Huuuuuge sigh of relief. Oh my gosh, I think I was hyperventilating before it. But surprisingly... it wasn't that bad! I think I can get the 85% or higher that I need to maintain my A-. If not, then I fail. I would be a total failure in my eyes. I have a lot riding on that grade and I must keep the A streak! English is my other big one, and who would have known cause I used to enjoy writing until Mrs. Mellera came along. She scares the crap out of me just by talking about what we have to do for finals. Remember that really bad grade I got on my last essay? Well, history could very much repeat itself on Friday.

Tomorrow is AP World and PreCal. Not stressing too much about those but I have A LOT to do tonight to prepare. Once Chemistry was over, I realized I haven't been doing much except preparing for that. Oops?

Sadies shirt came in! Hella early. Waiting for shoooooes.

Ms. Meyer: "After finals, you get to relax! Well, at least until Monday."

And welcome...

Goodbye Mr. George Bush, Hello Mr. President Barack Obama.

Goodbye Coach Alex, Hello Coach Pagan.

Goodbye A- in Chem, Hello B+? (I pray to God this won't happen!)

Goodbye sanity, Hello finals.

Zones 2009

I will do myself the liberty of noting my times and improvements at Zones Championships 2009. If you know nothing about swimming, the meaning of the numbers are pretty much useless to you.

50 free - from 29.59 to 28.73 (dropped 0.86)
100 free - from 1:04.04 to 1:03.00 (dropped 1.04)
100 back - from 1:09.98 to 1:09.85 (dropped 0.13)
100 breast - from 1:29.05 to 1:27.53 (dropped 1.52)
100 fly - from 1:17.00 to 1:16.06 (dropped 0.94)
200 IM - from 2:38.00 to 2:34.91 (dropped 3.08)

Altogether, I am very pleased with my Zones experience this year. Because of the new 2009 time standards, I got my first JO (Junior Olympics) time in 100 back!!! The 28 in my 50 free for the first time made my day too. I dropped time in every event :D I don't know what it is though, my workout has gotten 50% less intense since Brad left and Alex started coaching. Must be... I really don't know! The fact that I am sick? Or maybe that I am very stressed & tired from the past week? Or maybe the beautiful weather & plentiful sunshine, as compared to the gloomy mess of a sky that is usually what you see at Zones? These results were very unexpected from this meet but hey, I'm not complaining. They were in my favor. Baby, I think I'm ready for MHS swim season :D (7 more days!)

This meet (and the Monterey swim classic meet in August) are the best meets. Probably because they are so important. But other than that, it was a wonderful bonding experience. It's the 2 meets where we are required to go, so everyone in our team was there. In our down time in-between events (which is usually around 2-3 hours before our next event), most of the team would just sit under the tents huddled together, talking and singing. We have decided that "I'm Yours" by Jason Mraz is our team song, haha! It surprised me that everyone from 10 years old to the 17 years old knew how to sing most of it.

Thank god today tomorrow is a no school day. I don't think I would have the willpower to wake up at 7am since I have been waking up at 6am for the past weekend, and then coming home at 3pm tired as hell. My day will consist of 4 loads of laundry, AP world test reviews for chapter 21 & 22, chinese homework, Ugly Betty, & Grey's Anatomy.

Happy Martin Luther King Jr. Day! & 1 more day until Bush will be gone! Woohoo!

24 hours

I have a mental list of things to blog about but my muscles are too tired, my body is too tired, my mind is too tired. 1 more day of Zones, then plenty of sleep, then I will probably do a full-on blog.

Everything is not alright, we are not happy-go-lucky like we used to be. Honestly, none of you really understand. I have no other choice but to make tough decisions on how to divide my time, although I am confident in my abilities to have my priorities straight. (Private blog)

There just isn't enough hours in the damn day. If only humans could adapt to stay awake longer or somehow learn to need less sleep. At this rate, I wouldn't be altogether surprised if sleep becomes entirely obsolete one day.

Paradise replaced with a parking lot

It has been one of those weeks where when you experience it, you think tomorrow will never come. But looking back, it was a fast-paced, busy, and altogether accomplished week. Swimming practice was kinda put on the back burner, I had no choice but to be late for 2 practices and miss 1 this week. Knowledge bowl competition, deciding and shopping for Sadies, and planning a special birthday all took priority. I think I am getting better at prioritizing (although this week, I did forgot and unintentionally neglected to do something I was assigned for Science Olympiad, and I still feel ashamed that didn't will myself harder to remember). I think maybe I am too busy for my own good. Instead of starting homework at 7 daily (after swimming and piano), I have to start at 8 or 9. My nights consist of 5-6 hours of sleeping. Upcoming finals doesn't help AT ALL but add to the stress. & Just today, I gave the 2011 class officers my word that I would be in a skit/dance for the winter rally on January 30. But I think it's for my own good that I do things for experience instead of worrying about how I can benefit from it (college, duh). Trojans Olympics is still up for debate. Even though practice last year was hours long, I still consider Trojan Olympics night as one of the best nights of my life just because of the amount of energy in the gym, a natural & completely contagious high for all of us. I want to relive all of it but at what cost? What will I have to sacrifice this year? I don't want to have the sacrifices add up and bite me in the ass come the dreaded SAT day and when I apply for colleges. It's a thought that constantly crosses my mind.

Finally was able to catch up in my Time and Entertainment Weekly magazines. I have interesting tidbits that I kinda want to share... like yet another Bushism: "We were trying to say something differently, but nevertheless it conveyed a different message." Another was a witty cartoon depicting a |: face with the word: "McDonalds replaces Happy Meal with Cautiously Optimistic Meal." Entertainment Weekly was a cover story on Heath Ledger. I didn't think I could gain as much insight as I had already done (I read as many news articles as I could about his death), but the news articles don't provide enough as I discovered today. This Entertainment Weekly article was great because it was from the point of view of his closest friends, those that were there for him when he was in his highs and lows. After learning about him, you realize he is an extremely complex and fascinating person. I was surprised to know he hated and mocked the Oscars, countless publicity interviews, and promotion posters with his face on it. He is someone I can truly admire.

I just thought I would like to add how crazy real the state at which our economy is at. I see it constantly in the news, at the mall (new stores replace older ones), on the radio, and in my college savings account my mom set up. Obama, help?

Coming up soon (within the next week)... Zones Championships (2-day, 8-hours-long Swimming competition), finals in all 6 classes, US Open piano competition date looms, Honors chem afterschool study group, last week of MTW practice, orthodontist (possible last one before I get my braces off!), Chinese club lunar shows practices, Winter rally dance practices, Sadie Hawkins dance, and Knowledge bowl, Science Olympiad, and Key Club meetings.

And then... a big sigh of relief. Why does everything have to happen in these two weeks?!?! Who the hell planned all of this?!

And to top it all off, I am sick with a cold. The stupid cold bug that makes your voice ugly and causes a traffic jam in your nose. & it activates my asthma, so I start coughing (I even choked on my first bite of Wheaties yesterday morning). My body is not in prime condition for the big meet tomorrow. Why fail me now... ugh.

My brother is watching the classic movie, Peter Pan. He is gonna be in for a cold shock when he gets to high school.

Sunday, January 11, 2009

Oh brother, oh sister

Monkey

We all seem to have a moral compass. My problem is that I don't follow mine. Actually, I look around and no one follows theirs either. Has that become the status quo now? No one I know has unwavering morals.

I don't really believe in this astrology stuff cause if you think about it, what are the chances the same 12 different fates would apply to 6.7 billion people around the world? Nonetheless, it is always fun to look and compare. Here is the Chinese Zodiac Astrology from Yahoo.

Monkey Overview

This year offers the Monkey some opportunities to go far with your talents. The Monkey's generous nature may leave you stretched in several different directions, so it is important to stay focused in order to achieve the goals you have set for yourself this year. You will be given the opportunity to impress the right people both in business, as well as in your personal life. Don't hold back this year, for this could be one that will leave an impression over the course of the next few years.

Monkey Rating

49% (4 favorable and 5 neutral and 3 unfavorable months)

Monkey Career

Great strides can be made in your career this year. Timing is everything and in your case, time is on your side. You will be in the right place at the right time to impress the decision makers in your career. The steady Ox rewards those with strong work ethics and the Monkey will surely reap the benefits of your labor. Don't hesitate to do anything that will aid your skills and benefit your position.
Monkey Relationships

This could be a busy year for you domestically. Look to your family for the encouragement and support you need. On the same token, it is important for you to listen and heed the advice of those who care. Your social life is active filled with plenty of opportunities to make new friends. Don't forget the ones that have been with you through the rough times, as it is just as important to offer your time with your existing relations.

Monkey Health

Take note that there are several high points to your year. With such a busy social year, you may stretch yourself thin with your health. Be aware of your energy levels throughout the year, as you may need some added rest to counter your affairs. It would be wise to take an active part in your health, taking up a new form of exercise that follows your interests: martial arts or dancing are two good possibilities.

Monkey Wealth

This could be a great year for the Monkey financially. You will possibly make great gains in this area throughout the year. Due to your generous nature, you may have a difficult time refraining from giving to others. Be mindful of this and make sure you give to yourself every once in a while because you deserve it.

Happy National Cut Your Energy Costs Day!

Take the bad with the good

Things to NOT look forward to:
- Zones Swimming Championships next weekend, because it is too cold (Imagine wearing only a swimsuit in 10 degree weather... every year)
- Piano Competition in February (Holy shit... that has hella got me stressing cause I am so behind!!!)
- FINALS. Oh my god, even typing the word scares me

Things to look forward to:
- Zones Swimming Championships next weekend, because even still, I enjoy swimming
- 1st day of MHS swim season! (January 26)
- Chinese club Lunar/fashion show
- Braces off! By late January/early February
- No school on the 19th (& no Chinese school on 18th)
- Sadies: BLACKOUT on 23rd (:

When I make a list, I feel a whole lot better. Every now and then, all of us need a whole lot of reassurance that life isn't all that bad and there is always something to look forward to.

By the way, I learned what the BORDERLINE in Borderline Personality Disorder means. It means your personality is a "combination of a mood disorder and an impulse-control problem" (Time magazine - January 19, 2009). I have always wondered about it. I bet you didn't know that! (If you did, I don't really give a damn).

Just for fun... Poker Face, by Lady Gaga

I'm not lying I'm just stunnin' with my love-glue-gunning."

Development

Lots and lots of talk about Sadie Hawkins: Blackout! Haha. I am gonna buy a ticket tomorrow, but that is the only kind of action I am gonna take for now probably. Or I might decide by tomorrow, who knows. Although I do have someone in mind, I need to do some thinking about who I really want to ask.

Lecture on Sigmund Freud in English today. He is so incredibly interesting, I love it! I love how the brain works, what our personality says about us, and most importantly, why we are who we are. Since 8th grade, I have wanted to become a psychologist for god knows what reason, either a psychologist (Pro: No cubicle, choose my hours, have my own office, meet different people. Con: What if a patient tells me some really disturbing things? I could go crazy!) or a neurologist (Pro: Real brains to study! So freakin awesome. Con: 7 years of med school, oh my). Anything to do with the brain is fascinating to me. Me & Ashley have even made a mini pact to become psychologists (:

Anyways, in the lecture, Mrs. Mellera talked about trauma in the developmental stages (ages 0-5). It got me thinking, did I traumatize my brother? Sometimes I feel I am too harsh on him. But I can honestly say it was for his own good. Its just that... maybe that is traumatizing. Like when I lecture him or tell him he did something wrong. Idk! Gotta remember that What Freud said are just theories, as realistic as they may sound.

Year 2K9

Yearly goals/resolutions don't work, or at least not for me. This past year, I have been waking up every morning and coming home everyday from school with certain daily goals for myself. And for me, those seem to work the best. I can get things done that way because I prefer life taken one day at a time. Resolutions I forget within a week. But if I mess up on my daily goal, I go to sleep with an unclear conscience. Another reason I don't do resolutions, I hate hate hate failing at anything and I (maybe you too) tend to be overly optimistic at the start of a new year.

Sweet 16 birthday party thing was pretty bomb, even though it was Plan B. Plan B > Plan A anyways. Pictures up later from party w/ family & party w/ friends. I have a bunch of Chinese homework to do by tomorrow. 20 hours to do it might not even be enough (Sorry, I procrastinated... again. So today I am paying for it.)

Looking back, I had an enjoyable break. I got things done that I have been wanting to get done, things that have nothing to do with school. Unfortunately, I barely got any school stuff done, which includes big projects I wanted to get a head start on because they are due soon and I don't want to be stressing on my first week back. Too bad I WILL be stressing on the first week back. My grades are all pretty much borderline A-, so during finals, I will be in supersonic ultra stress mode to try to maintain them. Maybe I should have set a goal/resolution for winter break, ughhh.
